The Calvary is Coming is a real to life story about Army 108th Fire Department and the Village of Bramburg FD. The book is fiction, although the author tells me “The book was started just before and completed during my last mobilization (stateside the whole time). The majority of the characters in the book were modeled after folks I was working with.”
This story follows many different characters including Tiara and Sam who build a stronger relationship throughout the story. Their relationship is made stronger through personal issues, firefighting drama, and sacrifice. Through various calls, the 108th continue to perform. Some of the calls are normal for firefighters and medics, others are more serious including a close call, or near miss as firefighters consider a call when one of them might have gotten hurt worse than they did.
While some firefighters might not understand how military fire departments operate, this book gives a decent look into the lives of Military firefighters and medics. There is a lot of dialogue and many characters who at times are difficult to keep up with.

John Broyles was born in Peoria, IL 41 years ago and currently lives in Bartonville, IL. He is a retired US Army Reserve combat medic. He is also a former volunteer firefighter and current EMT–but currently works as a school bus driver. John is happily divorced with a teenage daughter and a young son. He is active in the Cub Scouts as a Pack Committee member for local pack.
I have read this book as well as its follow up book that John also wrote. He gives a great account of not only the firefighters view of life but also that of the “support staff” in their lives account. Just as in the military when a firefighter takes a call he leaves loved ones at home to worry. John brings the best of both together in an easy to understan and feel what it might be like to walk in a wife/girlfriends shoes with this type of lifestyle.
